AFCID

The Africa Confederation of Interior Designers [AFCID] would firstly like to offer a platform of exchange to the Interior Design industry and secondly, highlight the Inclusive design in the world of architecture and design in Africa. The aim is to unite interior designers from all over the Continent regardless of nationality, race or religion and to federate their National Councils of Interior Design organizations in order to join the African Confederation.

With the headquarters of the Confederation in Yaounde – Cameroon, the Confederation is a dynamic, supportive membership group of Design Professionals (Architects, Universal & Interior Designers, Interior Decorators, Interior Stylists) and industry associates from the Retail, Building and Construction industries. Our members are qualified and highly skilled professionals ready to assist with a wide range of commercial or residential architecture, interior design and styling services.

Working within a like-minded network of industry partners, the Confederation is blessed to have H.E. Rosalia ARTEAGA, former Head of State of the Republic of Ecuador, a brilliant lawyer and sustainable development leader, her Excellency is glad to be the godmother of our Confederation in order to bring her executive value in the process of our expansion.

Our concept

Our concept

The concept is known as “universal design”, but we prefer to call it “inclusive design”, because the goal is to include everybody in the organizational place. By either name, the idea refers to a broad spectrum of ways to produce buildings, products, and environments that are inherently accessible for people with or without handicap resulting from aging or other conditions, without requiring adaptation or retrofitting. The goal is to provide a place that is welcoming, enables everyone to reach the areas needed, and to fully use equipment and resources.

Designing for inclusion from the start helps sidestep the need for retroactive accommodation later, and it also creates a much more inviting workplace. A key aspect of this approach is that it avoids segregating or stigmatizing people with special needs, enabling them to focus on their duties without having to request accommodation or draw attention to their particular need.
